Tell me a little about yourself I am from London, England, but now I live in Florida on the Sarasota Bay. My daughter and I love to kayak in the bay, it’s glorious. I used to work as a professional musician, but I got tired of always being on tour, so that’s how I started to write books. I absolutely love to write, it rocks my world

When you were my age, did you like to read? Oh yes, all the time.I read the Wind in the Willows, and Alice in Wonderland and the Chronicles of Narnia when I was your age. They hadn’t invented Harry Potter yet LOL

What was your favorite story? I absolutely loved Winnie the Pooh (I forgot about that one) and Wind in the Willows

How do you get your ideas? They just pop into my head sometimes, and then I get cranky unless I get it out onto paper. It’s kind of like being followed around by a naughty puppy that wants a treat, and he keeps nipping at you until you give in. Once I’ve put the idea down on the computer, then I can relax and just write the story.

Is it hard to write a book? I don’t think so, I think if it’s a struggle to write the reader might feel it, and not like your books so much, like the pages are dipped in some sticky ooey gooey sauce that spoils the flavor. I try to never write unless I’m in a good mood because I think that energy is transferred through the pages and you wouldn’t invite me into your house for tea if I was all grumpy, would you?

Do you have a favorite among the books you have written/illustrated? I love them all, but (shhh don’t tell anyone) I think Muffy’s Florida Adventure is especially cool.

What author do you really like right now? John Grisham has a series for younger readers about Theodore Boone, kid lawyer, it’s actually pretty cool.

What advice do you have for a kid who wants to be an author? That’s a wonderful thing to want to be. And my advice would be to just write and write and write and always enjoy it, that will come through your stories. Don’t be hard on yourself, just let it flow out and then it will be unique and cool just like you are!
