42 is not just a number

By Doreen Rappaport

Tomorrow is MultiCultural Children’s Book Day. I participated as a reviewer last and had fun, so I am doing it again. I was provided a copy of “42 is not just a number” to review.

This book is about Jackie Robinson. If you somehow don’t know who he is, you should read the book. Ok, he was the first black Major League Baseball player. 42 was his uniform number. This book tells his life story so covers stuff most people didn’t know. Like I just knew he was a baseball player, I didn’t know he had been in the military.

It is a good book full of a lot of information. This book would be good for someone who wanted to know a lot about a baseball player. I am not much of a sports person so it was a little much for me, but I gave the book to my school library because I know a classmate will love it.

Multicultural Children’s Book Day 2017 (1/27/18) is in its 5th year and was founded by Valarie Budayr from Jump Into A Book and Mia Wenjen from PragmaticMom. Our mission is to raise awareness of the ongoing need to include kids’ books that celebrate diversity in home and school bookshelves while also working diligently to get more of these types of books into the hands of young readers, parents and educators.
