La Petite Josette en Provence

By Ashley Davidson-Fisher

Illustrated by Martinique Louise Fisher

Book Source: Provided in exchange for review

Book Status: Available

this book is about a girl named Josette who goes to Les Baux De Provence ( Half of the review is going to be in French) were she and her family go to see an abandoned Château, have a ——- I can’t tell you that, and get souvenirs.

This book is unique because most books in French are:

  • All in French
  • French learning books
  • All in French French learning books
  • All in French story books
  • And much, much, more

It was also cool to get mail from France. That was a first.

I took the book to Maine to read with my great-grandparents who both speak fluent French. I even call them Memere and Pepere which are French grandparent nicknames. One thing Memere noticed was that some phrases are different than she uses. My grandparents are French Canadian so there are regional phrase differences (like my Dad using Pop and Mom calling the same thing Soda).

We did enjoy reading the book together. My grandparents helped me with pronouncing the phrases. I am going to keep working on this. My mom has a friend who was born in Provence and will also help me. And I am planning a trip to France in 2020. I need to really practice this year and books like this one will be very useful.

The illustrations were beautiful!!!!!!!!! I want to draw like that!!!!!!!!! I LLLLLOOOOOVVVVVEEEE THOSE PICTURES!!!!!! The illustrator is the daughter of the author.

Overall this was a good book. I will be reading it often this year.

  1. Hi Bridget,
Thank you so much for the review of my book! I have to tell you that this is probably the most sweetest and most treasured review I have received from anyone. I love the photo of you and your grandmother reading it together, that actually made me cry happy tears 🙂
I am also very glad that you like the illustrations. My daughter is amazingly talented and she has been drawing since she was very small. It was all she ever did in her free time. She really brought the characters of the book to life.
Have a wonderful time in Provence and don’t forget to visit Les Baux-de-Provence!
I shall treasure your post and the photo of you and your grandmother with the book!
    Thanks again,
    Ashley
