Be Kind

By Pat Zietlow Miller

Illustrated by Jen Hill

A number of you recommended I read “Be Kind” by Pat Zietlow Miller so I borrowed it from the library. Now I am going to go buy it because it is a great book and everybody should have it in their library.

It is the story of a girl who sees her friend spill grape juice on her brand new dress. She thinks about how she could be kind to friend and what being kind means. She thinks about all the ways you can be kind to people and how kindness comes back to you.

This is a good book because of the message and it shows how you can be kind. There are things you can do yourself to be kind. I thought the illustrations are really, really cool and multicultural. They show the whole world not just a small piece of it. It is like a picture book for bigger kids because the main characters are big elementary kids, not littles. Fun note: the illustrator also does the illustrations for Bland Sisters!

So I recommend this to EVERYBODY. Oh and did I mention YOU should read.

And I would love to know how you show kindness.

I donate books to my library. I try to be a friend to everybody. I have a little library in my front yard.

The unintentional adventures of the Bland Sisters: The Uncanny Express

By Kara LaReau

Illustrated by Jen Hill

Wheee! The Bland Sisters are back and boy is this a crazy adventure. They have traded in the pirate ship for a train and you would think it would be calmer but nope. They get sent on a mission to see their aunt (or is she). A mystery arises and well the sisters come to the rescue and solve the mystery of the missing Aunt Shallot.

I like that the Bland Sisters are funny because their parents send them on seemingly normal missions that never stay normal. The books are fast paced and full of twists and turns. The minute I think I have it figured out, a new twist pops up. The girls are an updated Nancy Drew in this book.

I just really enjoy these books and think everyone should read it.

The Jolly Regina

By Kara LaReau

Illustrated by Jen Hill

This is the first book in the series “The Unintentional Adventures of the Bland Sisters”.  The sisters are named Jaundice and Kale and are from a town called Dullsville. They go on a pirate adventure which is the most exciting thing they have done.  They have the adventure all girls would like to have.

I love the characters, the setting, the illustrations.  I liked the book so much it is hard to pick favorite things.

I think everyone should read it. It is a good adventure to go on.
